Fermented foods are HOT -- as in all the rage. The medical benefits of eating lacto-fermented vegetables -- kraut, kimchi and the like -- are hitting the mainstream and becoming more widely understood. Could a spoonful of kraut improve your mood, as researchers are now claiming? Could it fend off an impending cold or improve over-all digestion?
Among those leading the Seattle fermented food-volution is Julie O'Brien, co-owner of Firefly Kitchens. Julie (who's been a longtime vendor at our sister market in Ballard) will show how to incorporate "ferments" into your everyday cooking. She'll have a bunch of things to taste and of course answer everything you've always wanted to know about fermented foods (but were afraid to ask). Stop by the Farm Stand Demo around 4 p.m. for a nosh and a chat!
Julie will also have signed copies of her book, Fresh & Fermented for purchase.
