Wednesday, June 27th: Fresh Food Fireworks For Your Fourth! And An Explosion Of Flavors From Chef Anthony Hubbard Of Wallingford's New TNT!

In honor of Independence Day, coming up just next Wednesday, we give you this explosion of baby carrots from Gaia's Natural Goods. It really does kinda look like a big firework bursting high above Lake Union, doesn't it? And speaking of explosions, guess what? Our friends at Chow Foods are returning to Wallingford! TNT opens soon across from the movie theaters on 45th, and we celebrate today with a great cooking demonstration at 4 p.m. with Chef Anthony Hubbard, who will be making all manner of tacoliciousness with fresh Market ingredients!

Speaking of Independence Day, don't forget to stock up today on sausages and burgers for the grill from Skagit River Ranch! Oh, and just as a reminder, since our dear Wallingford neighborhood will be overrun by tens of thousands of our closest and dearest friends next Wednesday to see the Lake Union fireworks show, and since our dear Seattle Police Department will have just about every cross-street blocked off beginning around 3 p.m., and since we, your Wallingford Farmers Market vendors and staff, would like to celebrate our dear nation's grand experiment in freedom and democracy -- on ongoing experiment at that -- with our own families and friends, your Wallingford Farmers Market will not be open on Wednesday, July 4th next week.

Ah, fresh basil from One Leaf Farm. Now, that's a taste of summer! Think of the pasta, the fish, the salads, the pestos. Basil is such a delicate crop that it is only available fresh locally in summer. And yet we hear folks asking for it as early as March at our Ballard Farmers Market. Well, folks, now's the time to enjoy local basil! Woohoo!!!

Martin Family Orchards returns to your Wallingford Farmers Market today with fresh early bing cherries from their orchards in Orondo, north of Wenatchee. One of the most northern of our cherry farms, they tend to come in latest in the season, but when they do, they come in strong! And they may even have a last few of their lovely d'anjou pears from last fall, too!

Summer Run Farm grows some of the most beautiful, perfect cauliflower you will find anywhere, and the good news is that you will find it here, at your Wallingford Farmers Market, fresh out of the field and ready for munching. Roast it. Grill it. Make gorgeous salads with it. Or just dip it in freshly made cocktail sauce, like my mom loves to do!

Paglia e Fieno fettuccine from Pasteria Lucchese is as much fun to eat and it is to pronounce! This best of both worlds pasta just begs for being tossed with summer's bounty, fresh from the Market. And Sam can't wait to give you any number of delicious, simple recipe ideas for working with it. Even if you already know what you are going to do with it, ask Sam for ideas, if only to listen to his charming Italian accent and watch him gesture his description of a "tear drop of cream."

Hmm. Some fresh lion's mane mushrooms from Red Owl Mushroom Farm might be good with that pasta, eh? These fluffy, yet a bit dense, mushrooms are the latest introduction of cultivated fungus from Red Owl, and they only have them in limited numbers. Mix it up tonight, and add some of these babies into dinner!

Of course, this is just a highlighting of what you will find today. There is still plenty of other stuff just waiting for you at your Wallingford Farmers Market this week. For a full accounting of what you will find, check out What’s Fresh Now!
