Wednesday, June 13th: Pasteria Lucchese Sam Returns... Honest! Plus Lovely Lettuce, Beautiful Beet Greens, Charming Chocolates, Sexy Spinach, Hayton Strawberries & Chef Travis Bettinson, Too!!

Okay, we promise, Pasteria Lucchese is back this week at your Wallingford Farmers Market with artisan pastas, sauces and desserts. Honest. See, Sam returned from Italy last Tuesday night just after midnight (he was visiting his ailing mother), and he was just too exhausted to make it to Market on Wednesday. But he's slept some now, and he's ready to feed you... and charm you!

Oh, hey, speaking of pasta, we've got another great cooking demonstration today at 4 p.m. by Chef Travis Bettinson of Junip Foods. Travis, too, is a pasta maker, and he'll show us some fun ways to work with the local deliciousness at the Market to make pasta!

Okay, are these not some of the most stunningly beautiful beet greens you've ever seen? And they're grown right in the neighborhood, too! Well, Wallingford and Ballard. See, these are from City Grown Farm, and they are farming spare patches of land right here in North Seattle -- about eight different parcels. And what they are producing is phenomenal. Of course, they have the advantage of having new planting beds full of nutrients, but hey, are we gonna hold that against them? Do you support local farms? Doesn't get much more local than this! Wanna support new farms. Bam! Looking for spectacular collard greens, kale, lettuce and more? Booyah! Check these folks out!

And speaking of new farms from nearby with stunning produce, how about One Leaf Farm. They are located in Carnation, on the West Bank of the Snoqualmie River, and they are in just their second year farming there. This magnificent red butter lettuce is just one of numerous heirloom lettuces they grow, and that is just for starters. One Leaf produces some of the best produce you will find anywhere, and lucky for us, you will find them right here, at your Wallingford Farmers Market.

Hayton Berry Farms makes its 2012 debut today at your Wallingford Farmers Market. They've got a ton of these gorgeous strawberries for you today. And those raspberries, blackberries and blueberries won't be far behind. It's June, baby! Woohoo!

Hey kids! Father's Day is this coming Sunday. You should really treat Dad to a backyard barbecue. Heck, he'll probably insist on doing all the grilling, meaning all you'll have to do is pick up these ribeye steaks from Olsen Farms and lotsa fresh veggies for the grill today at your Wallingford Farmers Market. You can thank me later!

Now that's some sexy spinach! It's from another of our new farms this season, Gaia's Natural Goods. A Hmong farm from Snohomish, they grow some beautiful, delicious and nutritious veggies -- no flowers for this farm. And right now, they've also got some nice strawberriespickled beets and other goodness, too!

Wow. It's only June 13th, and we've already got early Rainier cherries at your Wallingford Farmers Market. These are from Lyall Farms, which always is the first to have cherries. And since they also have some particularly early-maturing varieties of Rainier cherries, these bad boys are here to please us now! And you know who likes cherries? Dad. Just sayin'.

What up!? It's spring shallots from Alvarez Organic Farms. They deliver all that shallot-ee deliciousness with a youthful tenderness and sweetness that'll please any palate. Just think of all the dishes you can add these beauties to. Oh, and Alvarez still has lots of asparagus today, but it won't be around for long. Enjoy it while you can.

Ah, dessert. Treat yourself to a handmade truffle from Trevani Truffles. These lovely little confections are flavored using all different kinds of locally-sourced ingredients. That means you can appease your sweet tooth and your locavore sensibilities at the same time! Life is good, is it not?
