We're back! Yup, your Wallingford Farmers Market returns for its 6th season today, with a few exciting changes. First off, we've got a great new location at Meridian Playground, behind Good Shepherd Center, at the corner of Meridian Avenue N & N 50th Street, where Seattle Tilth holds its Spring Plant Sale and Fall Harvest Faire. We've also added a Chef-Only Market from 3-3:30 p.m., so local chefs can get in and out quickly and load up on great local ingredients for their menus, so tell your favorite chefs. And that leads to the third change: opening to the public at 3:30 p.m. We still close at 7 p.m., but in order to accommodate activities in Good Shepherd Center, as well as local chefs, we are delaying our old start time by 30 minutes. Of course, we still will feature cooking demonstrations with Wallingford's amazing chefs, starting today with Chef Dustin Ronspies from Art of the Table at 4 p.m.!
Welcome back your favorite farms today, like Alm Hill Gardens. I bet you've been missing their amazing salad mix through the dark months. Well, it's back, and we're back, and we welcome you back! So come celebrate with us!
Looking for your meat and potatoes? Olsen Farms returns with both! They're back with their dizzying array of the best heirloom potatoes around. And they've got pork, lamb, sausage, jerky and beef, including these delicious ribeye steaks.
It's asparagus season, and this is one of the sweetest years for asparagus in a long time, owing to the cool weather we've been, err, enjoying... See, sweetness in veggies is enhanced by cold weather. Check in with your old buddies at Alvarez Organic Farms for some of their awesome asparagus, as well as dried beans and local peanuts, onions and shallots, green garlic and sweet onions and more.
And this year, we've added some craft booze, too. Wine, fruit cordials, and this great, bottle-fermented hard cider from Finnriver Farm & Cidery. Yup, more and more, your Wallingford Farmers Market is your one-stop grocery store!
Do you miss these spectacular, huge, beautiful heads of lettuce you love so much from Summer Run Farm? Well, it's back, too. Along with their other lovely greens, various garden starts and more!
Of course, you'll also find the most brilliant bouquets of flowers in town here, too, like these from Pa Garden. Instead of buying flowers shipped round the world and grown who know how from the florist or big box store, support your local flower growers right here at your Wallingford Farmers Market. Fresher flowers, smaller carbon footprint, lower price, and you keep your precious dollars in the local economy!
Full Circle Farm also returns today with all manner of vegetative deliciousness, like these magnificent purple radishes. They've also got rapini, mustard greens, braising mix and more today.
We welcome some new farms today to your Wallingford Farmers Market. Like Silver Springs Creamery from up in Whatcom County. They've got amazing, award-winning jersey cow and goat milk, yogurt and cheese. Golden Glen Creamery is back with butter and cheese, but they don't bottle milk anymore. Silver Springs will fill that gap.
And, oh, that wonderful artisan bread from Tall Grass Bakery. Do you miss sinking your teeth into a crunchy, chewy hunk of one of their baguettes? I know I do! Well, your long, dark winter is over, good people of Wallingford! Your Wallingford Farmers Market is back, baguettes and all, and bigger and better than ever!
Of course, this is just a highlighting of what you will find today. There is still plenty of other stuff just waiting for you at your Wallingford Farmers Market this week. For a full accounting of what you will find, click on “What’s Fresh Now!” in the upper right-hand corner.
