Once that barbecue is done on Saturday evening, I don't know about you, but I can easily picture myself with apricot juice dribbling down my chin and onto my shirt. If this future sounds right for you, too, meet me at Wallingford Farmers Market today to pick up some of them from ACMA, and possibly Collins and Tiny's, as well. Oh, and for the barbecue itself, Wilson Fish has assured me they will be present today with fresh salmon and halibut, as well as freshly smoked salmon. Of course, Olsen has beef and lamb, and Sea Breeze has pork and lamb, as well. And you know what else goes great on the barby? This squash from Magana.
Also great on the grill are the last of the season asparagus from Ayala Farms, and spring sweet onions from, well, just about everyone. And don't forget the salads. We've got plenty of greens around, but really, nothing says Independence Day like fresh cole slaw, and Stoney Plains has these beautiful heads of cabbage just waiting for you to slaw it.
Several farms with have cucumbers for your salads and snacking already, and Alm Hill should even have tomatoes. Billy's definitely will, as they return to the Market today for another season. And don't forget to pick up some whipping cream from Golden Glen today, as you know you are going to need it for something, right?
And if you need ideas on how or what to prepare for your big holiday shindig, Chef Amy McCray of Eva Restaurant will be doling out the cooking tips (and hopefully a few samples) during her cooking demonstration from 4-5 p.m. today.
We'll see you today at the Wallingford Farmers Market!
